Born in Topeka, Kansas, Jerry came to Mobile, Alabama  when he was six months old.  An early passion for drawing and painting blossomed into lifelong dedication, leading to his first professional exhibition at the age of nineteen.  From 1962 to 1966 he studied at the University of Alabama under abstractionist Alvin Sella.

During his undergraduate years, Jerry's art drew critical praise, taking First Place in the Birmingham Festival of Arts in 1965.  That same year, his work came to national attention at the 20th Annual Southeastern  Exhibition in Atlanta, and at the National Drawing Exhibition at St. John's College in New York.  Among other notable achievements, Jerry was selected as one of 104 regional artists by USA TODAY and Absolut Vodka to contribute to a joint national advertising campaign.  He was featured in the PBS television series Art Today segment, A Man and His Drawings, and included Margaret Harold's compilation, Prize-Winning Art.

Permanent collections of Jerry Roldan's original work are on display at the Alabama Bar Association Building,  the Alabama Retirement Systems Building, and the Business Center of Alabama in Montgomery.  His paintings may be viewed at Time Life Publications in New York, the Bradford Health Care facility in Birmingham, Alabama, and at the Medical College, Art Department, and University Broadcasting Services buildings at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Jerry has enjoyed  a long and rewarding career in art instruction, and is actively teaching today.  He resides in Mobile with his wife Helena and son Philip. His daughter Tanya Huggins and grandson Jordan also live in the Port City. Through the decades, his work has evolved  from Abstract Expressionism to Realism.  The collection on this website reflects Jerry Roldan's artistic journey, encompassing the rich architectural and multicultural  heritage of his three hundred year old adopted home town on the Gulf Coast.  We welcome you to browse our galleries and enjoy.  Many of the featured original works are available for purchase.
